Sleep number bed is less adjustable than hospital beds because you cannot adjust the height or raise or lower the head and leg rest of the bed. However, the Sleep Number bed offers users the opportunity to adjust their bed’s firmness, a feature you will not find in most hospital bed types. 

How does the Sleep number bed work? 

Sleep number bed is a smart bed, which means all its features are controlled with a remote. Therefore, for you to start using your bed, you will first of all have to pair the bed with a remote. To set up your remote, check the instruction below. 

  1. Open the battery compartment at the back of the remote and insert 2 AA batteries. 
  2. When doing this, ensure that your bed is connected to the grounded wall outlet. 
  3. Go to the side of the base of the remote; you will find a favorite button or the pairing button on the smart control system, press and hold on the button to pair the remote to the bed. 

Note: we have different Sleep number models, and their remote differs, so this paring instruction may not work for your remote if it is not a climate 360 smart remote.  

Some sleep number beds do not require a remote to be operated; these models usually have sleep IQ features and are controlled with the use of an app. You will find details on how to set them up below. 

  1. Download the sleepIQ app. 
  2. Connect your Sleep Number bed to the internet. To connect to the internet: 
  3. Open and log in to your SleepIQ app. 
  4. Press the smart bed button 
  5. You will see a support icon & the bed settings in the top right corner; press it, then updates the WiFi information by selecting “connectivity” and “change WiFi.” 
  6. The app will scan your WiFi network afterward, and once it’s done, select your WiFi network and input your WiFi password. 
  7. Make sure to stay close to your bed until the process is complete.

Using the remote

  1. Select your bedside by pressing the right or left button. 
  2. Press the enter button to display the main menu. 
  3. Choose settings from the main menu

  1. Log in to the app 
  2. Tap bed controls 
  3. Select the Find Your Sleep number setting. You can also use the arrow and select “Set” to make micro-adjustments.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of Sleep numbers? 

Advantages 

  1. It allows couple or two people to sleep on a single bed with different firmness settings. 
  2. The firmness settings are flexible, which means a visitor can lie on the bed and also adjust the firmness of the bed to their preferred settings. 
  3. Sleep number beds are lightweight are very easy to move. 
  4. The firmness of the bed is not determined by the compression of springs it fiber fillers but rather by the air chamber, which means users get to enjoy extended comfort. The air chamber of a sleeper number bed can last between 2 to 25 years. 
  5. Sleep numbers come with a SleepIQ feature which monitors the respiration and movement of users as well as their heart rate. 

Disadvantages

  1. There’s a great chance that the thin foam layer on the top of the rubber chamber traps excessive heat. 
  2. Some models of the Sleeper number bed are fitted with thin foam layers, which could make firmer settings hard. Although back sleepers can benefit from this setting but may affect side sleepers. 

Is a Sleep number bed the same as a hospital bed? 

No, a Sleep Number bed is not the same as a hospital bed. Hospital beds are designed purposely to provide comfort to patients or users who have mobility problems and would be staying in the hospital for a while. Sleeper number beds are not designed for sick people alone and therefore they are not as adjustable as hospital beds.
